Elizabeth Mitchell Genealogy
Record modified: 2010-02-18
This is my direct ancestor 7 generations back.
Born: 1752-01-19 Old Stafford Co, Virginia USA
Died: about 1837-00-00 Cadet, Missouri USA
1. Brumfield Long
Children of Elizabeth Mitchell and Brumfield Long:
LDS site has an Elizabeth Mitchell born 1752-01-19 Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co VA, daughter of Samuel Mitchell and Bridget (unknown). (They have the last names as Mitchel.)
Their source: "The register of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia 1723-1758 and sundry historical and genealogical notes" by George Harrison Stanford King et al. It has births, deaths, and marriages 1723 - 1758.
A message on the Allen Co KY mailing list says that her parents were Thomas Mitchell and Susannah (unknown). It cites a 1796-01-07 deed whereby Bromfield LONG Sr. sells Elizabeth's legacy, which says: "Thomas Mitchell...bequeath a certain legacy to his Daughter Elizabeth Mitchell who hath since intermarried with Bromfield LONG (Sr.)..."
This RootsWeb entry shows Elizabeth Mitchell, d/o Thomas P Mitchell + Susannah Wilson, married 1790 Broomfield Long. Since my Benjamin Long, s/o Brumfield, was born 1769, that must be a different family. Broomfield was a common name in my Long family, so the one who married in 1790 must be a cousin of my Brumfield.
(Note: the above RootsWeb entry shows Elizabeth's father born 1714, but her mother born 1759 and married 1771. That seems hard to believe.)
I haven't found her on the 1830 census. None of her children have an elderly female in their entries.
She is supposed to have moved to MO in 1830. Maybe she was in transit while the census took place.
